Urve Kuusk, MD, FRCPC, is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of British Columbia. She is a specialist in the surgical care and treatment of patients with breast diseases and breast cancer.
Dr Kuusk’s research has focused on breast cancer prevention studies, with patient education a priority. She was a vital part of the team that established the first immediate breast reconstruction program in British Columbia. The first Rapid Access Breast Clinic in Vancouver was opened in 2009 and she was instrumental in its creation, as well as its Medical Director until 2016. Dr. Kuusk was on the development committee that established the first dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors (Abreast in a Boat), and steered on that team for their first year. The Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Program has become a world-wide phenomenon.
